“PÂQUES”:
“À Pâques” (Easter) in France, is the only time when “les cloches” (the church bells) don‛t ring from Thursday to Saturday, just before Easter Sunday. It is believed they all go on holiday to Rome (in Italy) to get blessed. On their return, they drop chocolate eggs for good children to celebrate springtime and the end of lent. So look carefully in your
gardens as you may find a big chocolate egg!

DID YOU KNOW?

As in many countries, “le poisson d‛avril” (April fool, literally "April fish") is celebrated at the end of lent in France on 1st April. Legend has it that 1st April used to be the 1st day of the calendar year when people would offer each other fish. In 1564, Charles IX, the king of France changed it to the 1st January. Some got very confused and others played practical jokes by offering fake fish on 1st April pretending it was New Year‛s Day! Today, on 1st April in France, children tack paper fishes on each other‛s back as a trick and shout “Poisson d‛avril”. So watch your back!

SUSSEX BASED MUM’S HOME BUSINESS SHORTLISTED FOR TWO EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS

On 15 March in Birmingham, a local Mum will find out if her educational business will be a winner at the Education Show.

Mum of 3, Emmanuelle Fournier-Kelly, based in Goring, West Sussex is the co-founder and visionary driving force behind Maskarade Languages, providers of materials and teachers for modern foreign languages.  A French native, Emmanuelle has lived in the UK for the last twenty years, making Sussex-by-sea her home since 2009.

Firstly, Maskarade is a finalist for the Educational Resources Award in the category of Best Primary Resources, non-ICT for “Le Petit Quinquin En Chansons”, a CD of original French songs.

The second award is The Primary Languages Classroom Award, nominated for teaching methodology and delivery at Clarendon, a day community special school for pupils aged 7-16 with moderate learning difficulties and additional complex needs (including autism).  

“I am absolutely thrilled that all of our hard work, energy and creativity is being recognised. As a mother, I am passionate about children’s education and am pleased that we are being recognised for raising the standard of teaching French in the UK.”  Emmanuelle Fournier-Kelly

We are thrilled to announce that our CD of French songs "Le Petit Quinquin en Chansons" has being shortlisted as a finalist for this year’s ERA 2013.


The Education Resources Awards highlight the quality and diversity of educational products and resources, excellent educational establishments and the most dedicated members of the teaching profession and supplies industry, all working together to encourage the very best in education. The awards are organised in association with the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA).

Finalists and winners will be announced at the gala awards ceremony on Friday 15th March at The National Motorcycle museum. The black tie event will commence at 6.45pm with guests invited to sit down for a 3-course dinner at 7.20pm. The awards ceremony will commence at approx 9.45pm and will be hosted by a celebrity comedian, followed by the chance to network and then enjoy a disco and fun casino, the evening will end around
1-1.30am.
